In September 2013, Platnumz released his hit
track Number One which to date has 7
million views on Youtube.
“Before doing the first video version of
Number One at Ogopa Djs in Nairobi, my
video cost used to be about US$ 3,000
(N1.1m) per video. With Number One, I
went 10 times higher and spent US
$30,000 (N11.4 million) or thereabout to
fly Ogopa Djs video crew to Cape Town,
South Africa, and shoot my video. The
outcome was amazing, and that gave me
the green light to approach Davido for a
remix.”
His decision to get Davido on a remix of the
song saw him almost going broke as he had
to take loans from Tanzania banks to shoot
the music video for the song. According to
him, he had to travel with his crew to Lagos.
Well, it is clear to see that Diamond Platnumz
never regrets risking it all as the remix
proved to be a success opening up a new
market in the West African region for the
Tanzanian talent.
Number one remix which was released in
January 2014 amassed over 43 million views
on Youtube.
In other music news, heavy criticism is not
new to billionaire daughter and entertainer,
DJ Cuppy Otedola, and the latest to take a
swipe at her is singer Kelly Hansome.
The music star recently took to his page on
Instagram to call out the celebrity DJ and
criticise her music. Hansome particularly
made reference to a video of Cuppy’s Gelato
performance at her Gold Dust live event.
