Jeezy – Here We Go

In what may very well be the most brilliantly timed album release of the past few years, Jeezy followed up his historic Verzuz battle with Gucci Mane with the release of his Recession 2 album. And while the rapper’s sound has shifted drastically since the first installment dropped in 2008, one of the earlier cuts “Here We Go” does feel quite nostalgic in nature. Produced by Don Cannon and Sean Momberger, the instrumental features a blend of triumphant horns and contemporary percussion, symbolizing Jeezy’s transition into the new era. And while the times may have changed, Jeezy’s propensity for keeping it real on wax has yet to fade. “FOREIGN SONGS…

Meek Mill – GTA Ft. 42 Dugg

Meek Mill delivers an icy banger on, “ GTA .” Dream Chasers in-house producer Nick Papz holds down the production with icy keys and bouncy 808s. Meek and Dugg leave no room for a hook, going back to back with a barrage of bars that includes a shout out to Lisa Raye, rapping, “Fuckin’ on this oiled lightskin bitch, look like Lisa Ray.” Clearly, she’s still on his mind. It feels like a minute since we’ve received some actual new music from Meek Mill. With Dugg serving as one of the hottest new rappers in the game, hopefully, “GTA” is one of many collaborative efforts we hear from them in the future. “FOREIGN SONGS…

DaBaby – 8 Figures Ft. Meek Mill

DaBaby has been through a lot over the past few years, and just a few weeks ago, his brother Glen Johnson tragically took his own life after battling mental health issues. Since Johnson’s death, DaBaby has been advocating for mental health awareness, and on Friday, he released a 7-track EP dedicated to his late brother, called My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G). Every track here contains emotional lyrics, including the Meek Mill assisted “8 Figures” which sees DaBaby grappling with his fame and how despite all of the heartbreak’s he remains pure and well-intentioned. Both artists rap about not being appreciated, which is a motif that has more to do with their romantic relationships. “FOREIGN SONGS…

Megan Thee Stallion – Freaky Girls Ft. SZA

Megan Thee Stallion released her debut album on Friday, Good News , and fans are already enjoying the project quite a bit. The album is packed with dope songs and even features some lyrics that will certainly be seen as a diss to those who used to be close to her. Having said that, there are some obvious standouts on the project, including “Freaky Girls” which features the likes of Sza. The song starts with a hook from Sza who is offering up some sexually explicit lyrics. Meg ultimately matches this energy as she gets into her braggadocios bag, all while delivering a steady flow that will be appreciated by music listeners. “FOREIGN SONGS…

Nas – Fallen Stars Flying

Today, Nas has come through to flip the script on its head with “ Fallen Stars Flying,” a new track off HBO’s Between The World And Me Soundtrack. And judging from a preliminary listen of the lyrically- potent drop, he succeeded in doing exactly that. Though King’s Disease was a breath of fresh air for Nas fans, “Fallen Stars Flying” does feel a little closer to his vintage sound — vividly rendered storytelling over gritty sample-based production. Fans will be pleased to see another solid drop from the legendary lyricist, and should this be the caliber Between The World And Me is bringing to the table, perhaps we’ll see more where that came from. “FOREIGN SONGS…
