years, and just a few weeks ago, his brother Glen
Johnson tragically took his own life after battling
mental health issues.
Since Johnson’s death, DaBaby has been
advocating for mental health awareness, and on
Friday, he released a 7-track EP dedicated to his
late brother, called My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live
G).
Every track here contains emotional lyrics,
including the Meek Mill assisted “8 Figures” which
sees DaBaby grappling with his fame and how
despite all of the heartbreak’s he remains pure and
well-intentioned.
Both artists rap about not being appreciated, which
is a motif that has more to do with their romantic
relationships. “FOREIGN SONGS… Megan Thee Stallion released her debut album on
Friday, Good News , and fans are already enjoying
the project quite a bit. The album is packed with
dope songs and even features some lyrics that
will certainly be seen as a diss to those who used
to be close to her.
Having said that, there are some obvious standouts
on the project, including “Freaky Girls” which
features the likes of Sza. The song starts with a
hook from Sza who is offering up some sexually
explicit lyrics.
Meg ultimately matches this energy as she gets
into her braggadocios bag, all while delivering a
steady flow that will be appreciated by music
listeners. “FOREIGN SONGS… Today is a very special day in the career of Kanye West as it marks the 10-year anniversary of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy . In the eyes of many, this is Kanye’s magnum opus and could very well be considered to be the greatest album of all- time. From start to finish, Kanye provided fans with a stunningly gorgeous soundscape that featured a plethora of talented artists, record producers, and engineers. Of course, the album has some undeniable standouts like “Monster,” “All Of The Lights,” “Gorgeous,” “Runaway,” and, of course, “Devil In A New Dress” with Rick Ross. From the heavenly vocal samples to the braggadocios bars, Kanye was at his absolute best on this track. Rick Ross’s contribution to the song is just as incredible, especially when you consider how Ye actually forced Ross to re-write the verse. This turned out to be an amazing decision as “Devil In A Dress” arguably contains the best verse of Ross’s illustrious career. “FOREIGN SONGS… There’s no denying the narrative that Nas ‘ fourth studio album Nastradamus is widely considered to be the low point of his otherwise acclaimed career. Released on the heels of the back-to-back run that was Illmatic, It Was Written, and I Am… Some might have argued that Nas was destined to stumble on the basis of pressure alone. Not only that, but the soundscape was in the process of shifting, with several New York emcees steadily experimenting with a more commercial production aesthetic. The transition proved difficult for the acclaimed lyricist, who occasionally found himself stumbling over some downright strange production choices. Yet that’s not to say the mark was altogether missed, as an emcee of Nas’ caliber seldom strikes out without connecting at least once or twice. Unsurprisingly, one of the highlights arose on “Come Get Me,” a reunion with the legendary DJ Premier . “FOREIGN SONGS… Housed on Yemi Alade’ s praised fifth studio
album “Empress”, is the single “Deceive”
featuring Rudeboy (Paul Okoye of P-Square).
Produced by Jimmy Huru , Vtek , and Egar Boi ,
the infectious and magnificent melodious afro-
pop duet sees Ms. Alade and Paul flirt to birth
an ear-worm tune.
Listen below and share your thoughts. “Empress”
is currently available on all music platforms. “SONG…
